Stretching/Weight Training Advice & Being Mentally Prepared for the Holiday’s!
A conversation I often have: the younger one is… the stronger they want to be.  The older one is… the more flexible they want to be.  As you get older accomplishing both takes even more time than it did when you were younger.  Get into the habit of doing physical activities and stretching.  Both will help you with your overall health condition.  I often get asked; “how often should I stretch?”  For those that are reactive; stretch targeted muscles until tightness goes away.  For those that are proactive (full body stretching); stretch once in the AM, once in the PM.For strength training; make sure that you’re using multiple muscle groups to prevent repetitive stress syndrome; vary your workouts.  Also, make sure there’s adequate time for rest in between workouts.

Nutrition is important as well; for those that don’t have the best diet: supplement with whole-food supplements.  “These pick up where your diet leaves off.”  For healing purposes, your body requires proper oxygen, blood supply AND nutrients to do so.  Not all are created equal: make sure the supplement is as potent and pure as possible; you will have to pay more than for the average off the shelf supplement due to quality assurance processes.

All of the above mentioned is valuable because after all, no one wants to be capable of significantly less as time goes on…most of that is under YOUR control!

You may not win every battle, but winning the war IS what matters!
(Now let’s talk about the holidays and some advice that may be helpful!)
A lot of people will be under more stress, not eating as well, not moving as much, possibly even sleeping less…what’s this lead to?  Being more susceptible to getting sick, injured and/or aging faster. What can you do to circumvent what’s going to happen to a lot of people: instead of getting your usual 6 or 7 hours, seek out 8.  Eat as many fruits, vegetables and salads with dark green leafy “stuff” as often as you can.  Instead of eating junk food when it’s available to pass the time…so “why not?” or when you’re bored; find an alternative to it ahead of time.  Plan for those moments so that you’re prepared and not as weak to control your impulsiveness.
Remember as humans, we are very good at justifying why we do what we do…be open and honest with yourself.  Is it alright to have a snack here or there? Yes, overindulging gets people into trouble and then it becomes a snowball effect.  Pay attention to how you feel after eating something healthy vs un-healthy?  The more you pay attention to that, the better you’ll become with making choices as time goes on.  The older we get, the harder it is to maintain our weight…generally one’s metabolism slows and they don’t burn off calories as easily.  Know this, prepare for this…the sooner you develop better habits; not only will you feel better; you’ll look better.
After all, no one wants to slightly inflame or even over-inflame themselves from a dietary standpoint, especially since we control what goes into our mouth!  If you consume something that your body doesn’t easily recognize as bio-available (meaning: valuable to the body for maintaining itself); it often gets stored as fat around the midsection and unfortunately around the vital organs.  Just remember; “a moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips!”
