I’m going to share with you: “Why I choose Chiropractic for my health care needs.” I’m a bit biased because I’m a Chiropractor, but my message is the same as many others that I’ve helped through the last 8 years.
I chose to be a Chiropractor because I wanted to educate and inspire others to pursue a form of health care that was conservative, non-invasive and all-natural…and what made the most sense to me. There is a huge shift occurring with people choosing the more “alternative” route vs traditional medicine. There aren’t as many side effects and people are recognizing why these “other” types of health care have been able to stand the test of time. Only two reasons why that’s able to happen….results & people sharing their experiences!
Here’s my story: I’ve only had to go to my family doctor three times in eleven years (I’ve lived in MI, FL and now IN since 2006). All three times were for sinus infections…gotta love the Midwest! I’ve been adjusted, utilized traction, stretched/exercised, ice/heat, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, and had soft tissue work to remove muscle spasms and scar tissue from the active lifestyle that I lead. I get worked on once/week without issues and when I have issues, as often as possible, sometimes 2-3x/day. I, like a lot of you, count on my body to perform at a very high level often. I grew up playing baseball, basketball, football and soccer and I still continue to play sand volleyball, mountain bike, run, etc… The one thing I’ve always wanted to prevent, as much as I could: “being limited and feeling like I’m getting older.” I had to have a “check-up” recently within the last few years for disability insurance and life insurance…everything checked out great!
On one hand you could say I’ve been lucky…that’s a portion of it, when is it not? On the other hand, I’ve pursued a style of living and taking care of myself that’s congruent with what my body needs from me…absolute essentials. I’m by no means perfect with every decision I make…I strive for eight out of every ten decisions to be something that’s going to enhance my health and at the very least not be a detriment to my health.
I have the occasional something to eat or drink that’s not optimal for my well-being and health. When this happens don’t beat yourself up over it, give in to that “cupcake, cookie, pop, beer, whatever”…just know that you are trying your very best and you’ll make up for it with your next set of choices. They will be that much healthier because of your previous indulgence. After awhile you’ll notice that one decision vs another will give you energy and vitality vs lethargy and laziness. At this point, you’re really in touch with how the decisions you’re making are affecting your health on the level of simply how you feel before, during and after with the choices you make. Keep in mind, the decisions you make today are going to affect how you feel (possibly, not always), but more than likely if kept up will affect you down the road at some point. These effects could be beneficial or detrimental.
We are all largely, for the most part, responsible and in control of our health and therefore, our present and our future. Kind of scary, but overall a real blessing. Genetics are a component, but not as much as what they’re given credit for. You can turn “on” or turn “off” genes based upon your activities of daily living. Your lifestyle and the choices you make are largely going to determine how long one lives AND how you live along the way.
Chiropractic adjustments and soft tissue work has allowed my body to get over every issue I’ve ever dealt with when it comes to muscle spasms, scar tissue, joint restrictions, numbness/tingling from nerve interference, trigger points, etc… Injections, physical therapy, pain killers, muscle relaxers, anti-inflammatories and surgery have their time and place…but a lot of times, conservative care has served me best and many others as well.
Having the body worked on at MaxLife Chiropractic allows the body to experience physical stress reduction from all of life’s stressors: (personal/professional mental stress, physical stress from doing too much or not enough, and chemical stressors from what you chose to eat and drink). The bodies’ systems can all work in synchrony much easier and at a higher level (nerve supply, blood supply, immune system, etc…).
On the spectrum of how invasive something is, the seriousness of the side effects and the potential number of side effects…start with as conservative as possible to begin with and work your way down the line. It’s worth the time you’re investing getting your health back.
What I would like to ask of you: please share how and why Chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work, lifestyle advice, etc…benefited you, so that others too may know about the benefits that are possible for them. You would be doing myself a great favor trying to spread the work of Chiropractic and what MaxLife can do for them.
